Thomas Huriez - (1083)

"As long as it's not impossible, it's possible," Thomas Huriez casually states. Formerly a computer scientist, Thomas has become one of the emblematic faces of the Made in France movement since 2013. Founder of jean making company 1083 alongside his brother Grégoire, he enjoys not being defined by any one profession. "Being an entrepreneur means no longer having a single profession but enriching your professional life with dozens of different roles. I can't confine myself to what I am today, to my comfort zone; it keeps me awake, open, curious. I love having to learn and grow with everything we build together," emphasizes the young forty-something who defines 1083's journey as primarily a human adventure. It started in Romans-sur-Isère, in the Drôme region, where, as a child, he visited his grandparents every weekend and transformed a family home into an ethical fashion store. After 6 years of exploring commerce and the fashion world, he developed a passion for jeans and in 2013, he embarked on relocating the entire jean manufacturing process back to France. Since its inception, the company has taken an approach that is counter to the fashion industry's norms. While fashion brands overproduce and encourage overconsumption, 1083 aims to grow and reduce jeans consumption in France through a responsible, high-quality supply chain that creates local jobs: "The French buy nearly 67 million pairs of jeans every year. We're developing an offering of beautiful, local, sustainable, and high-quality jeans so that the French consume less and consume better."
